Faculty Senate

The Faculty Senate of Tallahassee Community College serves as an advisory board within the organizational structure of the college. It provides an open forum for faculty to discuss and deliberate on important matters affecting their interests. It helps to protect high academic and professional standards at the college and helps to promote academic freedom.

All full-time instructors below the level of Dean, and librarians and counselors who hold faculty status below the level of Director are voting members of the Senate. Adjunct faculty who have taught through three consecutive terms can participate as non-voting members.

The Senate holds regular meetings in September, January, and March when officers are elected to the Senate Steering Committee and Faculty Affairs Committee. In April, the Senate meets to hear reports from faculty representatives from the Standing Committees of the College. The Senate may also meet in special session as determined by the Faculty Constitution.

The Senate Steering Committee is made up of eight full-time faculty representing the six divisions on campus. It is presided over by an elected Chair who serves a one year term. The Chair-Elect automatically becomes the Chair in April. The other representatives serve one year terms, but may serve a second if re-elected. The Steering Committee is the Senate's official liaison and representative to the administration.
